Who is Cookin Mug?

Hello! My name is Sarah Mug and I’m a 22-year-old from Sonoma County, California. From as far back as I can remember, cooking and spending time together at the dinner table have been an integral part of my family. I grew up around Arabic cuisine as my dad’s side of the family is originally from Jordan and Palestine. Cooking in my eyes meant togetherness and family. And that’s truly how I viewed it until I moved to college. Like most college students, I struggled with body image after being thrown into a completely new environment. It took a massive toll on my mental health, especially when sent home due to the pandemic. It’s been a journey of learning to love what I have to offer to the world and recognizing that the girl in the mirror is more than the size of her jeans. Learning to not fear the food in front of me but to cherish is what I’m here to share.
I started sharing my recipes and love for cooking with close friends when I returned from home from studying abroad in Italy. I experimented in the kitchen like never before. I looked at food as an opportunity to create. My chef name was Cookin’ Ma, inspired by the Nintendo game “Cooking Mama”, one of my absolute favorites. Since I created my own spin on the name to make it more personable, Cookin Mug came to be!
The purpose of this blog is to share my recipes and tips/tricks in the kitchen as well as hold space as my digital portfolio for whatever I’m inspired to share. Thank you for following along on the journey!

Big Love,

Cookin Mug
